A Plan for Grace @ Greenhouse Village

The congregation approved this Plan 70 to 10 on April 18.

Why Here? Why Now?

Jesus said, “I came to serve not to be served.” What does our community need?

  • It needs faithful proclamation of the Scriptures and a vibrant, growing Christian community where Christians love and care for each other.
  • It needs Biblical counselors to help people find Jesus through the frustration of life in a fallen world.
  • It needs a safe place for our children to come to worship. to learn, to play, to be protected and to be trained to serve in the name of Jesus around the Commonwealth, the Country and the world.
  • It needs a place for people of various ages, interests, abilities, and experiences to be able to join together in the name of Jesus to serve and not be served.

We have a building that is dark, damp, falling down, and too small for us to worship together. We have very little parking. We have no room for our children to play safely. We have no room for a counselor, for nursery and Sunday School classes to grow, and, on a practical note, too few bathrooms.

Though we will never be able to meet every need in our community, Grace @ Greenhouse Village, our new church facility, will give us greater opportunities to serve those we love and live with in Rockbridge County.

Plan Summary

We envision worshiping together at Grace @ Greenhouse Village by summer 2011 at a projected cost of $2.0 million. With Session and Congregational approval in April, G&H Construction will break ground in June.  Cornerstone Bank will provide 24-month construction financing at 5.5%. We will also launch a $500,000 fund raising campaign in June, replacing our current campaign, and continue aggressive efforts to sell our Main Street and Shenandoah Road properties. We expect property sales and fund raising to yield $1.25 million on or before June 2012.  At that time, Cornerstone Bank will convert the estimated $750,000 construction loan balance into a 20-year mortgage at a variable interest rate adjusted every 5 years.  At a 6.0% rate, for example, monthly payments would be $5,373, or less than 20 percent of our projected operating budgets from 2012 onward.

This plan is a faithful and wise response to God’s vision for our church.  It seizes today’s opportunity for low interest rates and construction costs, recognizes God’s past faithfulness to Grace, and calls us to trust in His grace and mercy as we expand His Kingdom.
