Divorce Recovery MinistryGrace Church members Sylvia and Rick Kirgis are in charge of a divorce recovery program for Christians who are going through divorce or who have recently gone through it. Each year, and sometimes twice a year, small groups of Christians feeling the agony of divorce meet in the Kirgis’ home one evening a week for about 13 weeks. Each week they view a half-hour DVD and then have a discussion on such divorce recovery topics as depression, anger, loneliness, forgiveness, reconciliation, children of divorce, financial problems and new relationships. Each DVD stresses the vital importance of Jesus Christ in the recovery process. Sylvia and Rick reinforce the centrality of Christ as they lead the discussions after the groups view the DVDs. In the nine years since they felt led to begin the program, more than forty people from several churches and denominations have participated in it, sometimes more than once. Sylvia and Rick are themselves survivors of divorce, and have been happily married to each other for more than eleven years. Please call Sylvia or Rick at 540-463-5443, or email them at kirgisr@wlu.edu (Rick) or skirgis@embarqmail.com, with any questions or to find out when the next Divorce Recovery group will begin. |
