Grace Food

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.” (Matthew 25:35)

A Joyful Response

Grace Food, a joyful response to the love of Christ, is a church wide ministry to help feed Rockbridge neighbors who are hungry. Christ calls us to follow Him into the pain of the world around us, saying, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. (Luke 9:23).  On His way to the Cross, Christ gave us a new command, “As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34).  Throughout Scripture, feeding the hungry is an obedient response which glorifies God.

2010 Response: 1476 food items

2011 Response: 1621 food items

2012 Goal: 2000 food items

2012 Response through January 22: 165 items

BAG IT and BRING IT: One food items per week

We ask everyone to pray for Grace Food as a ministry which glorifies God. We ask all who can to bring one food item to worship each Sunday, or as many Sundays as possible. Grace Food collection bins are located throughout the church. Although RARA highlights a specific food item each month, ALL non-perishable food items are extremely welcome any Sunday.

Hunger in Rockbridge County

The pain of hunger is real in Rockbridge County.  In response, Christ calls to us, saying, “Feed my lambs” (John 21:15).  In January alone, 790 of our neighbors (346 families) were hungry and received the gift of 22,000 pounds of food from the Rockbridge Food Pantry.  Over one-third of the hungry are children.  All food items that you give to Grace Food are distributed through the Rockbridge Food Pantry (RARA).

2012 Goal

Grace Food’s 2012 goal is to receive joyfully 2000 or more food items.  We received 1621 items in 2011, 1476 items in 2010, 1870 items in 2009 and 1497 in 2008.  Please contact Curt or Janis Wilbur with questions or to find out how to become involved in this ministry (540-460-5405, curtandjanis@yahoo.com).
