Important Building Committee Update

March 12, 2010

The Building Transition Committee has been meeting regularly over the past several months with the architect, builder, realtor, bankers and a fundraising professional.  An update of our progress:

  • The architect’s plans are finished, so we know the look and layout of the building and even details about construction materials.
  • The builder (G&H Construction, Salem VA) is scrubbing the plans to see areas that we can tweak to cut cost.  This is called “value engineering” and is common in construction projects.
  • We have received and are reviewing proposals from three banks to determine a loan amount and terms.
  • We are considering the best strategy for future fundraising campaigns.

Interest rates and construction costs are at a low point so this is an opportune time to begin a building project.  We hope to move aggressively so as to break ground this summer and occupy the building in the summer of 2011.  We plan to present a plan to the session and congregation for approval this spring.
